In 2010, the top 6 quarterbacks scored more points than Arian Foster who most experts pick as the #1 choice.
Tom Brady- 359; Aaron Rodgers- 344; Peyton Manning- 341; Michael Vick- 337; Phillip Rivers- 329 and Drew Brees- 327 all had more than Arian Foster's 309.
The reason most people think that taking a running back first is because you can get a good, high scoring QB in the later rounds because the drop-off isn't as great.
For example, the #7 QB was Matt Ran with 295 while the #2 running back was Adrian Peterson with 226. A huge drop from the #1 to the #2 running back!
Still, I like picking a dominant QB first. Here are my top 5 for 2011:
- Aaron Rodgers- Super bowl MVP. Getting their running game back will open up more of his receivers and he can run a little when he needs to.
- Tom Brady- Always a stud, now he'll have Chad Ochocinco to throw to as well as Welker, Branch and his 2 pass catching tight ends.
- Phillip Rivers- Should be even better than last years stats because he'll have Malcolm Floyd and Vincent Jackson on the field with Antonio Gates from game 1. Also, their running game isn't what it once was when L.T. was there.
- Peyton Manning- Don't think for one second that this guy is going to miss any games because of his neck. He's got Favre's consecutive game streak within reach and he's a straight up gamer! The Colts whole game plan runs through him and he's an absolute master!
- Drew Brees- Too many weapons to be stopped. The Saints have so many guys who can catch the ball, defenses don't stand a chance and Brees never lets up, he just keeps chucking, even when they're up.
