So Far,So Good...

Heading into Week 3, I'm sitting at 2-0 and I'm the number 3 scoring team overall in my 14 team league.

Not bad when you consider that, during Week 2, I played Brandon Lloyd ( who never got into the game), Malcolm Floyd (who got hurt in the first half) and Mike Tolbert ( who didn't do much of anything). Steven Jackson was sitting out and so was Marcedes Lewis.

Somehow, I still managed to generate 110 points and win by 30+. Nice!

Next up, Week 3...

If my guys play up to their usual standards, I like my chances. The other guy has some decent players but, all things being equal, I win. Period.

Head-toHead:
Rodgers v Cutler  edge: Rodgers
Lloyd v Jennings  edge: Jennings
Floyd v D Jackson  edge: D Jax if Maclin doesn't get all the action
S Jackson v P Thomas  edge: S Jackson
Forte v D Williams  edge: Forte
E Moore v J Witten  edge: Witten
Tolbert v S Moss  edge: Tolbert
Rackers v Fok  edge: Rackers
Steelers v Saints  edge:  Steelers...all day!

That puts it at 6-3 in favor of me. Now, let's see if any of that means anything at all. We all know how fickle FF can be.

Fantasy Football Top 5 Running Backs

I'll keep this post brief because There are a million of these lists out there but, for my readers, here is what I think:

  1. Adrian Peterson, Minn. - Favre sucked last year and A.P. was second in fantasy points only to Arian Foster. Having McNabb back there will help him immensely.
  2. Jamaal Charles, KC - Total stud! Thomas Jones will take fewer carries away from him and the team added Steve Breaston who will help force the defenses from collapsing on Bowe and will further open up the running game.
  3. Chris Johnson, Tenn. - Shouldn't have held out but Tennessee had no choice but to pay him. His numbers have been declining and he'll never reach 2,000 rushing yards in a season. But getting rid of Vince Young and adding Hasselbeck will help him reach 1,400 rushing yards and he'll get more catches out of the backfield. He make end up with 2,000 total yards.
  4. Stephen Jackson, St L. - With Sam Bradford starting his second season and with the Rams adding Mike Sims-Walker and Cadillac Williams, Jackson is going to be totally rejuvenated. He's going to kill it,...Watch.
  5. Arian Foster, Hou - His hamstring could end up bothering him well into the season but that won't keep him from making my top 5. Just don't expect a repeat of last year.
So, There you go. Comments are welcome!

My Top 5 Fantasy Football Quarterbacks

In fantasy football, I know the theory is that running back is king but, I beg to differ. If you look at numbers (and really, that's all fantasy football is; numbers) then quarterback  is the way to go.

In 2010, the top 6 quarterbacks scored more points than Arian Foster who most experts pick as the #1 choice.

Tom Brady- 359; Aaron Rodgers- 344; Peyton Manning- 341; Michael Vick- 337; Phillip Rivers- 329 and Drew Brees- 327 all had more than Arian Foster's 309.

The reason most people think that taking a running back first is because you can get a good, high scoring QB in the later rounds because the drop-off isn't as great.

For example, the #7 QB was Matt Ran with 295 while the #2 running back was Adrian Peterson with 226. A huge drop from the #1 to the #2 running back!

Still, I like picking a dominant QB first. Here are my top 5 for 2011:

  1. Aaron Rodgers- Super bowl MVP. Getting their running game back will open up more of his receivers and he can run a little when he needs to.
  2. Tom Brady- Always a stud, now he'll have Chad Ochocinco to throw to as well as Welker, Branch and his 2 pass catching tight ends.
  3. Phillip Rivers- Should be even better than last years stats because he'll have Malcolm Floyd and Vincent Jackson on the field with Antonio Gates from game 1. Also, their running game isn't what it once was when L.T. was there.
  4. Peyton Manning- Don't think for one second that this guy is going to miss any games because of his neck. He's got Favre's consecutive game streak within reach and he's a straight up gamer! The Colts whole game plan runs through him and he's an absolute master!
  5. Drew Brees- Too many weapons to be stopped. The Saints have so many guys who can catch the ball, defenses don't stand a chance and Brees never lets up, he just keeps chucking, even when they're up.
I left Vick out of my top 5 for 2 reasons; he's an injury risk and he's not as consistent as the other 5. Show me that he can do it for another season, or better yet 2, and I'll re-think it.

A Blog About Fantasy Football?? What an Original Idea!

This is an awesome idea, I know! Why hasn’t anyone ever thought of this before??

The only thing that makes this blog unique is that it’s going to include more than just tips and strategies, it’s going to include an entire Fantasy Football season of my team, my coaching decisions, trades, and everything else that goes into a (hopefully) successful season.

Again, I hear you groaning, “So what?? I Still don’t care!”

But, I have to say, you should! I have found that when Fantasy owners share ideas, good things happen. Come on,…you know it’s true! Let’s do it! Join in the discussions. I want your thoughts and I’m going to need your advice.

My draft day is tomorrow, Sept. 3, 2011. I’m currently sitting at the mechanics garage getting my oil changed and I’m getting this blog started. When I get home, I’m going to give you my top 5 picks at each position as well as my overall top 20. I may even get a little crazy and write a few more posts before the big draft day. We’ll see. Obviously, I’ll keep you updated about what picks I actually get and my pick-ups/drops, trades, starting line-ups, etc.

Again, join in and help me win it all this year!
